Congratulations on your engagement! Your big day is approaching quickly, and you’ve probably already found your dream dress. Before you’re ready to tie the knot, you’ll need to pick out the right shoes to match your wedding dress. With so many styles to choose from, finding the perfect pair of shoes to wear with your wedding dress may seem like a daunting task, but here are a few tips you can use to find your dream shoes.

Tips for Saying “Yes” to the Shoes

Pick Shoes Based on Dress Length

The height of your wedding shoes should accommodate the length of your gown. Full-length wedding gowns require shoes with heels to keep the gown from dragging. If heels will have you wobbling down the aisle instead of walking, pick out your shoes before your dress fitting. Your seamstress will be able to adjust the length of the dress to accommodate flats or sandals. If you want your shoes to be visible, the seamstress can adjust the hem accordingly.

Choose the Right Shoes for the Job

Sky-high stilettos aren’t going to allow you to walk down the aisle without a fight if you are saying your vows on the beach. Similarly, sandals may not be appropriate for a cathedral wedding. Comfort should also be considered when you are choosing your wedding shoes. Heels aren’t always necessary, but a stylish pair of flats or wedges offers a comfortable alternative to stilettos or sandals. Some spunky brides are opting to strut down the aisle in an embellished pair of Converse or Vans sneakers.

Consider Your Wedding Dress Style

One of the most important things to consider when picking out the perfect pair of kicks is how they will look with your wedding dress. Lace, embroidered, beaded, and silk dresses call for different shoe styles. If your dress is off-white with lace accents, you’ll want to find shoes that are decorated in a similar fashion. Most importantly, try to find shoes that are the same shade of white as your wedding dress to avoid unsightly clashing.

Practice Makes Perfect

It’s best to break in your shoes before your wedding to ensure you won’t get blisters as you are walking down the aisle. Wear your wedding shoes around your house to see how they feel. If you decide that they are totally uncomfortable, return them and try a different pair. Uncomfortable shoes will only ruin your wedding day no matter how pretty they look. It’s best to choose a practical, attractive pair that you can wear while you dance the night away.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Your wedding shoes shouldn’t be an afterthought. They are just as important as your dress, accessories, and hairstyle. Your wedding shoes should beautifully complement your dress and wedding theme, as they will help tie your wedding day look together. Give yourself enough time to find the perfect pair of shoes that will allow you to feel comfortable, confident, and fashionable on your big day.
